IIT Research Institute, headquartered in Lanham, Md., moved its Advanced Technology Group next to the IRS New Carrollton Federal Building complex.

"This relocation is a strategic move to allow for out continued growth and to put us closer to the IRS," said a company spokesman. The company plans to hire 40 additional employees for the new office.

Last year, IIT completed a five-year contract to operate the federally funded research and development center for the IRS Modernization Program. The company will continue working with the IRS on this project and on Y2K testing, modeling and simulation of telecommunications systems, acquisition planning, strategic planning and technology assessments.
Voltaire Advanced Data Security Inc., an Israel-based company that provides security solutions for the Internet and other public networks, opened its U.S. subsidiary in Vienna, Va.

"Given the explosive demand for Internet access and the wide use of PCs in North America, there is a growing need for the public and private sectors to store and keep sensitive data separate from Internet traffic," said Erez Diamant, founder and president. "Opening our U.S. office represents a natural transition for the company, and an opportunity to grow our business."

Gary Markin was named vice president and general manager. He will be responsible for introducing Voltaire technologies to new markets. Previously, he worked for AT&T.The National Venture Capital Association, Arlington, Va., named Mark Heesen its new president. He will oversee association activities, lead professional staff and work with the board of directors to establish policies and strategies.

The association represents approximately 330 venture capital and private equity firms. It was established in 1973 to foster an better understanding of the impact venture capital has on the U.S. economy and to stimulate the flow of private risk equity to developing companies.
