Computer Sciences Corp. of El Segundo, Calif., and the Defense Department have developed a tool that allows sharing of information over the World Wide Web between disparate work-flow applications.

The development of the extensible markup language tagging convention is part of CSC's work with the Defense Department's program manager for the Joint Computer-Aided Acquisition and Logistics Support Office.

JCALS is a joint service program to improve the acquisition, development and maintenance of U.S. military systems.

"Interoperable work flow through the World Wide Web is a powerful tool in the quest for seamless electronic commerce between DoD and its trading partners," said Donald Hall of the Defense Joint Electronic Commerce Program Office.

The Navy is developing a multiple-award contract to provide logistics systems integration support services for several naval air stations. A draft statement of work is available at www.nalda.navy.mil/teamcontract.

Services will include logistics planning, analysis, maintenance planning and development, support structure activation, modeling and simulation and configuration management.
Unisys Corp. of Blue Bell, Calif., won a $55 million systems integration contract from the Brazilian postal service to integrate information technology in branch offices into the postal service's corporate information network and enhance the levels of service provided to customers.

The postal service sees the contract as a first step toward creating an electronic business environment. Capabilities under the contract include customer self-service through branches and other sites, Internet e-mail (hybrid mail services), digital identification and authentication and full-scale electronic business.

Unisys will manage the automation in 12 to 18 months of 1,436 post office branches throughout Brazil, as well as 28 operational units, 38 training facilities and a development center.
