ITT Industries Inc. of White Plains, N.Y., and Fortress Technologies Inc. of Tampa, Fla., have signed a reseller agreement under which ITT will resell Fortress' virtual private network, data communications and security solutions to the federal government.

ITT Industries Inc. of White Plains, N.Y., and Fortress Technologies Inc. of Tampa, Fla., have signed a reseller agreement under which ITT will resell Fortress' virtual private network, data communications and security solutions to the federal government.

ITT Industries' Defense Group will market the NetFortress product line through its aerospace/communications division and its systems division. The company also will use the products internally.

"Fortress' federally validated products enable ITT to expand their overall defense system offerings with a secure, reliable, easy-to-use solution for protecting sensitive information," said Ray Weadock, president and chief executive of Fortress.

The deal also lends credibility to Fortress' products because of ITT's experience and established reputation as a developer and provider of secure systems for the U.S. military, he said.

Federal Data Corp. of Bethesda, Md., has achieved Gold Partner certification with networking giant Cisco Systems Inc. of San Jose, Calif. Gold is the highest level of certification Cisco offers to its partners.

Gold Partners have expertise in nearly every aspect of Cisco's business, including planning, network design, network management, support and global networking to serve customers during network development.

FDC achieved its Gold Partner certification by investing heavily in network engineering support, infrastructure development and specialized services, such as voice-over-Internet protocol and video on demand for Cisco products.

FDC engineers also have demonstrated their expertise in complex network design, implementation, management and troubleshooting.

FDC is Cisco's top reseller in the government market.
Exabyte Corp. of Boulder, Colo., has merged its sales and marketing organizations as part of a restructuring at the company.

The company wants to develop a stronger network of resellers and original equipment manufacturers, said William Marriner, Exabyte's chairman, president and chief executive.

The company wants to focus its business on MammothTape technology and network storage solutions.

It has consolidated its drive and automated library operations. Another business unit has been formed around network storage solutions.

On the reseller side, the company has nearly 200 partners. New marketing efforts will focus on creating demand for products and developing end-user leads for partners. Changes to Exabyte's operations will be in place by the end of August.

Singapore Cable Vision Ltd. chose Computer Associates International Inc. of Islandia, N.Y., to manage its network of cable modems being used by SingaporeOne, a government initiative to link schools, government agencies, homes and businesses. Singapore Cable Vision will use Unicenter TNG to manage the network.

Singapore Cable Vision has spent about $300 million to install cable modems throughout the island country so eventually every home will have access to cable television services and broadband access to interactive services.
