The contract will be in use for five years with extensions.
Nine vendors ? Amdahl Corp., Bull NH Information Systems, Compaq Computer Corp., Dell Marketing LP, Digital Equipment Corp., EMC Corp., Gateway, Storage Technology Corp., and Unisys Corp. ? have been awarded contracts.

Hawaii's Department of Accounting and General Services recently awarded a $1.1 million contract to Kronos Inc. of Waltham, Mass., for a time and attendance system. The system will replace the process of manually capturing and processing time and attendance information. It also will provide automation support to central and departmental payroll and personnel offices.

The state of Maine hired Criterion of Auburn, N.H., to upgrade the CORE software that is a part of the New England Child Support Enforcement System. The CORE software is currently running on an American Management Systems software platform. The contract is worth $245,000.

Polaroid Corp. of Cambridge, Mass., will provide a digitized driver's license system for Iowa under a contract from the state's Department of Transportation. The company will provide hardware and software, installation and maintenance, data and image capture, transmission, storage, retrieval and document production.
The contract is based on a firm, fixed price per driver's license and identification card successfully produced. The three-year contract is scheduled to begin Jan. 1, 2000, and is estimated to be worth $8 million.

The Ohio Department of Education recently awarded a $3 million contract to Battelle (formerly Battelle Memorial Institute) of Columbus. The contract requires the vendor to implement a student management records system for over 600 school districts statewide.

These contracts are compiled by Federal Sources Inc.'s state and local division. Federal Sources is a market research firm in McLean, Va.
