SAIC Forms Alliance with Health Care Group:
Science Applications International Corp. and University HealthSystem Consortium have formed an alliance for San Diego-based SAIC to supply year 2000 solutions to members of the consortium. The consortium is composed of more than 80 major academic health centers and 40 other associate members.

SAIC will be providing its Century Care 2000 suite of products, which was designed for health care organizations. The Oak Brook, Ill.-based consortium pools the resources of its members to provide services such as technology assessments, clinical and operational bench marking, and financial databases.

Eastman, KPMG Form Work Management Alliance:
Eastman Software Inc. and KPMG Consulting formed a strategic alliance to target government and business markets looking for document management solutions. Eastman Software of Billerica, Mass., will provide the enterprise work management software expertise, while New York-based KPMG adds the consulting practice.

The two firms will jointly target government agencies and specific industries such as banking, insurance and financial services. "Eastman Software's proven technologies complement our Document Management practice in delivering to clients superior document management solutions," said Robin Lineberger, principal-in-charge of KPMG's Document Management practice.

US West Forms Partnerships for Network Applications:
US West Communications has joined ranks with Digital Equipment Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., Microsoft Corp., Novell Inc., Oracle Corp. and Sun Microsystems Inc. to create the next generation of network-based applications and solutions. The partnership will allow the companies to embed data applications and services directly into the data network US West is building.

Englewood, Colo.-based US West hopes to have the network up and running by the end of 1998. Applications that it hopes to offer include e-mail hosting, multimedia intranets, electronic billing, content distribution and supply chain management.

Lucent Technologies Acquires HP Wireless Unit: With the acquisition of Hewlett-Packard Co.'s wireless unit, Murray Hill, N.J.-based Lucent Technologies has formed a wireless broadband networks division. Lucent officials said the firm wants to move into the emerging fixed wireless broadband market.
