Comsat Wins FAA Contract for $57 Million

Bethesda, Md.-based Comsat Corp.'s mobile communications business unit finalized a 5-year, $57 million satellite communications contract with the Federal Aviation Administration.

It has options to extend up to an additional five years, with a total estimated value of more than $120 million.

Comsat will provide satellite and ground communications services that will be used to support the FAA's new Wide Area Augmentation System.

The system operates in conjunction with the Global Positioning System, a satellite network operated by the Department of Defense that provides worldwide positioning signals for government and commercial use.

Bell Atlantic to Provide Telecom Support

Bell Atlantic won the Airport Communications System contract from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, a deal valued at $10 million over five years.

Bell Atlantic will be responsible for operating, maintenance and monitoring the system. Bell Atlantic Federal Integrated Solutions in Washington will provide on-site telecommunications expertise at Ronald Reagan Washington National and Washington Dulles International airports, as well as the authority headquarters in Alexandria, Va.

Raytheon Aerospace Wins $21.2 Million Contract

The Navy awarded Raytheon Aerospace, Madison, Miss., a contract to provide aircraft maintenance services in support of the Joint Undergraduate Flight Officer program.

The one-year contract is valued at $21.2 million. If all one-year options are exercised, the contract would be valued at $135.4 million.

Raytheon Aerospace will support the program with depot repair aircraft and engines, operation and maintenance of simulators, pilot services and material management. The contract was awarded by the Naval Aviation Systems Command, Naval Air Station in Patuxent River, Md.

Sabreliner Corp. of St. Louis will team with Raytheon to provide aircraft engine depot repair, parts and material support and engineering data. AAI/ESI Corp. of Baltimore will help support the ground-based training system.

Dunn/IDP Wins Fed Health Care BPA

Dulles, Va.-based Dunn/IDP Computer Corp. entered into a blanket purchase agreement valued at about $5 million with the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense Health Affairs.

The contract is open to all defense medical units and offers 12-, 24- and 36-month leasing terms. The terms allow for lease extensions, purchase of equipment at fair market value or technology refreshment under a new lease.
