SRA International Inc., Arlington, Va., has won two new delivery orders under the Chief Information Officer Solutions and Partners contract. SRA will assist the Department of Defense transportation community by providing information system life cycle management for the Military Traffic Management Command and provide technical services support to the Military Sealift Command. Over the five-year task periods, the MTMC contract has an estimated value of $10.3 million and the MSC delivery order is valued at approximately $7.5 million. For MTMC's Project Management Office, SRA will provide support to the Transportation Operational Personal Property Standard System, which assists more than 300 transportation offices worldwide in facilitating movement of service members' and civilian employees' personal property.

The University of California, San Diego has received a $1.9 million, 18-month award from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to implement, optimize and evaluate defense-related applications on a new kind of supercomputer, the Tera MTA. UCSD and the San Diego Supercomputer Center will lead a multipartner research team that includes The Boeing Co., the California Institute of Technology, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Sanders (a Lockheed Martin company), the Naval Command, Control and Ocean Surveillance Center, and Tera Computer Co. The Tera MTA (for Multithreaded Architecture) uses a radical new machine architecture that could revolutionize high-performance computing. Each processor supports up to 128 threads of execution, allowing much higher processor use than in traditional architectures.

General Government

American Management Systems of Fairfax, Va., won a five-year, $10 million contract from the Department of the Interior to provide a state-of-the-art automated procurement system. The new system, based on AMS' Procurement Desktop solution, is designed to support the entire procurement process from requisitioning through simplified acquisitions, contract placement and administration. DOI expects that this new client/server-based system will improve its procurement process by lowering costs and increasing staff output. It will support DOI's online acquisition regulations, integrate with third-party word processing and spreadsheet tools, and offer an online interface to the agency's financial system. The new system will replace DOI's current DOS-based procurement system.

Other

IDT Corp., Hackensack, N.J., announced an agreement with Daewoo Corp. and Naray Mobile Telecom Inc. to exclusively offer Net2Phone Direct, IDT's phone-to-phone-via-the-Internet service, in Korea. The $1.5 million deal involves the purchase of Net2Phone Direct servers and infrastructure as well as setup and development. Daewoo will distribute IDT's Net2Phone Direct servers and software in Korea. Naray will provide IDT's Internet telephony services, acting as the official operator and representative of IDT in Korea.

Spectrum Astro Inc., Gilbert, Ariz., signed an agreement worth $130 million with Mobile Communications Holdings Inc. and Orbital Sciences Corp. to provide major subsystems for 17 satellites being constructed for the Ellipso global communications satellite system.

Bell Atlantic has accepted Chantilly, Va.-based Objective Communications Inc.'s video networking products to be offered in connection with Bell Atlantic's TEMPO contract. The TEMPO contract is a billion dollar, 10-year contract to modernize and upgrade various Department of Defense and DoD contracting agency telecommunications capabilities with voice, video and data technologies. The TEMPO contract includes upgrading more than 100,000 Bell Atlantic customer desktops within the Military District of Washington, D.C.
