IBM Gives OK for Distributor
to Assemble Products

IBM Corp. of Armonk, N.Y., is letting Synnex Information Technologies Inc. assemble PC work stations, notebooks and servers as part of IBM's Channel Assembly program. Synnex is a Fremont, Calif.-based distributor.

Synnex officials said they expect to begin assembling IBM products during the first week of April in the company's Fremont manufacturing facility. Synnex then will extend its IBM assembly operations to its Memphis, Tenn., manufacturing facility during the third quarter of 1998, pending IBM certification.

Cisco Starts Program for Resellers After E-Rate Dollars

Cisco Systems Inc. of San Jose, Calif., started a new program in late March to help resellers participate in the federal government's E-Rate program. The program will funnel billions of dollars to local schools and libraries in the next three years for telecommunications projects.

Cisco's E-Rate program offers added incentives to Cisco resellers and partners who target this K-12 school and library opportunity. The program offers special discounts on certain hubs and switches and allows resellers with approved credit to preserve working capital through extended repayment terms of 90 days.

Cisco's E-Rate program also provides 12 months of service and support to participating resellers and their customers.

OTG Software Partners With FileNet for Storage Solution

OTG Software, a division of Optical Technology Group Inc. of Bethesda, Md., has formed an original equipment manufacturing agreement with FileNet Corp. of Costa Mesa, Calif.

FileNet integrated OTG's storage management software with its Watermark document-imaging software in late March. The product is being marketed, sold and supported through FileNet's worldwide channels as part of the FileNet Watermark product line.

Oracle, Novell Bundle Network, Data Server Products

Oracle Corp. of Redwood Shores, Calif., and Novell Inc. of Orem, Utah, reached an agreement in late March to offer Novell's NetWare and Oracle8 data server as a bundled product.

Buyers of NetWare 4.11 and above will receive a five-user version of Oracle8. NetWare is a networking platform. With the two products bundled, users will be able to develop and deploy networking computing solutions.

MicroAge Receives IBM,
HP Certification

MicroAge Inc. of Tempe, Ariz., received certification from IBM Corp. of Armonk, N.Y., and Hewlett-Packard Co. of Palo
Alto, Calif., for its work in developing partnerships with resellers and systems integrators.

"For the past couple of years, MicroAge has been dedicated to building a strong worldwide network of the leading integrators to better serve the technology demands of multinational corporations and institutions," said Jim Scharpf, group vice president of MicroAge Global Account Management.

The company has strategic partnerships with IT providers in 34 countries covering North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Rim.

VCON, Federal Services Target Videoconferencing Market

VCON of Bethesda, Md., signed a strategic partnership with Federal Services Inc. of Chantilly, Va., to sell distance learning solutions in the government market.

VCON makes videoconferencing products that work from desktops. They can be used for training and other meetings and operate across existing government networks.

"Our customers' technological needs are constantly changing as their networks grow, so the companies we represent must offer a range of adaptable products," said Executive Vice President Tom Cuneo.
