SAS AND SYLVEST TEAM UP ON GSA
In a partnership with Lanham, Md.-based Sylvest Management Systems, Cary, N.C.-based SAS Institute Inc. recently announced that its SASO software has been made available to federal customers and contractors through the U.S. General Services Administration schedule sales program.

The announcement arrives two years after the SAS Federal Group was formed to boost government sales. With a tradition based in direct sales, SAS Institute shifted gears to offer indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts 18 months ago. The presence of the GSA schedule vehicle is a further effort to take advantage of the changes brought on by procurement reform, company officials say, with schedule-based blanket purchase agreements speeding up the purchasing process.

SAS Institute will offer virtually all of its products and services on the GSA schedule in a subcontracting agreement with Sylvest. Sylvest specializes in the design, assembly, marketing and integration of open systems computing solutions for the federal government and prime contractors. SAS specializes in data warehousing, business intelligence, online analytical processing, application development and decision support software tools.

Currently, government agencies constitute about 15 percent of the nearly 30,000 SAS sites worldwide. In 1996, SAS Institute achieved nearly $100 million in revenues from government agencies. SAS software is used in all 14 major federal departments and approximately 85 percent of the subagencies and government affiliates.

INFODATA SNAGS BTG, GE CAPITAL
Fairfax, Va.-based Infodata Systems Inc. recently announced two partner agreements with Fairfax-based BTG Inc. and Gaithersburg, Md.-based GE Capital IT Solutions Federal Systems, two moves intended to boost Infodata's presence in the federal government marketplace.

Both BTG and GE Capital have entered Infodata Systems' Virtual File Cabinet reseller program. BTG, a product, integration and support services company, will provide consulting, product selection, delivery and complete integration and engineering services for Infodata's federal customers in the program. GE Capital will provide to its government clients Infodata's document solutions, and Infodata will provide online support to GE Capital technology and sales staff. GE Capital Information Technology Solutions is a $6 billion independent supplier of integrated, life-cycle technology solutions with 9,000 employees in 14 countries. The Federal Systems division accounts for more than $300 million in inventory and 3,300 technical staff working out of 70 locations.

Infodata's Virtual File Cabinet is a collection of intranet-based products helping organizations access, organize, edit and share documents across an enterprise.

UMAX OFFERS BUNDLE OF APPLE
Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple Computer Inc. recently announced that it will provide Mac OS 8 on Umax Computer Corp. computers, through a current licensing arrangement.

This license to Umax does not include the rights to use Mac OS 8 on common hardware reference platform-based systems and is valid through July 1998.

Apple develops, manufactures, licenses and markets products, technologies and services for business, education, consumer, entertainment, scientific and government customers in more than 140 countries.

UNISYS ADDS DELL TO SEWP
Servers, desktops and laptops from Dell Computer Corp., Austin, Texas, have been added to NASA's Scientific Engineering Workstation Procurement II as part of McLean, Va.-based Unisys Federal Systems' contract. Available are the PowerEdge 2200 server, OptiPlex GXpro 200 computer and the Latitude XPi-CD MMX laptop.

GOVERNMENT ACQUISITIONS WINS MICRON GSA SCHEDULE
Government Acquisitions Inc., Cincinnati, has won the General Services Administration schedule for Micron desktop PCs. Government Acquisitions, an 8(a) systems integrator, is one of the first indirect GSA suppliers of Micron products.
