STERLING AND HCL JAMES MARTIN TEAM UP

Dallas-based Sterling Software Inc. recently announced it is forming a services partner program with Fairfax, Va.-based HCL James Martin Inc., to provide year 2000 services.

HCL James Martin Inc., a professional services company, uses systems redevelopment processes to help customers maximize the value of existing information technology assets to transition into the year 2000. Sterling's year 2000 offerings are available to government agency customers through the General Services Administration and the California Multiple Award Schedule.


SIEMENS AND 3COM COME TOGETHER

Siemens A.G., based in Berlin, Germany, and Santa Clara, Calif.-based 3Com Corp. recently announced they are teaming up to create products for integrated voice and data networks.

The alliance will link Siemens' Hicom telecommunications systems with 3Com's enterprise data networking systems in attempting to establish a voice and data communications presence in corporate networks. Products will be aimed at telephone via Internet and use of teleworking and multimedia communications. The worldwide business communications systems and solutions market is growing at 15 percent, the companies reported, and should reach more than $110 billion by the year 2000.

3Com is a $5.6 billion data communications company, with 13,500 employees in 45 countries. Siemens is a supplier of communications solutions, with $8.6 billion in sales and 28,000 employees.


GOVERNMENT VENDORS FLOCK TO INGRAM

The big just get bigger. Santa Ana, Calif.-based Ingram Micro Inc., a heavyweight among technology products and services distributors, recently announced that it has added 34 vendors to its government reseller program, Partnership America.

That brings the total to more than 200, with respect to vendors serving the federal, state and local government sectors, since Ingram Micro launched Partnership America in 1995. The program offers bid pricing, proposal support, contract management and processing support, state and local programs, state term schedule support, dedicated government account managers, technology refreshment, credit services and configuration support. The new partners include Tokyo, Japan-based Canon; Chelmsford, Mass.-based Telebit Inc.; and Sunnyvale, Calif.-based MiLAN Technology.

Ingram Micro had 1996 sales of $12 billion, and distributes more than 36,000 products to more than 100,000 resellers in 120 countries.


SCO AND IBM PARTNER ON SERVERS

Santa Cruz, Calif.-based The Santa Cruz Operation Inc., also known as SCO, is partnering with Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM Corp. to market the SCO UnixWare system as a primary operating system for high-volume Intel processor-based IBM PC servers.

IBM is looking to expand its enterprise market with the move, and will run the partnership out of its PC server division. Other companies that have partnered with SCO include Houston-based Compaq Computer Corp., and Blue Bell, Pa.-based Unisys Corp.

LUCENT FINDS MAGIC SOLUTIONS

Paramus, N.J.-based Magic Solutions and Murray Hill, N.J.-based Lucent Technologies are teaming up to resell Magic Solutions' SupportMagic help desk products.

SupportMagic will be included in reseller Lucent's five application starter packages under its new Definity ProLogix Solutions line. SupportMagic provides a help desk for small businesses that can support six to 150 support professionals. It includes full-text search engines and pre-indexed technical documentation.
