General GovernmentThe National Science Foundation awarded a $75,000 Small Business Innovation Research Phase One award to Mogee Research & Analysis Associates, Reston, Va. The goal of the research is to develop a tool that patent licensing professionals can use to group patents into licensing packages more quickly, cheaply and accurately than current methods.
Department of DefenseAmerican Management Systems, Fairfax, Va., was selected as the recipient of the Defense Department Standard Procurement Systems competition, targeted at automating and streamlining the Defense Department procurement process through a software product. The nine-year SPS contract is estimated to be worth more than $235 million, and includes customization of AMS' baseline commercial product, installation and training, and other professional services to implement and support an integrated Defense Department solution. NCI Information Systems Inc., McLean, Va., was awarded an $80 million engineering and analysis support services contract with the Material Test Directorate Office at the U.S. Army's White Sands Missile Range. Under the nine-year, indefinite-delivery, indefinite quantity contract, NCI and its team members will provide test engineering and analysis, software development and test support services. Team members include Research Analysis and Maintenance Inc., Aeronautical Radio Inc., Lockheed Martin Space and Range Systems, New Mexico Engineering Research Institute, ACTA Inc., and Analysis-Planning-Test Research Inc. Amstar Communications Corp., Frederick, Md., won a $41 million contract as part of the Defense Information Systems Agency award of a potential $291 million contract to AT&T. Referred to as HITS (Hawaii Information Transfer System), AT&T's prime contract will include seamless, transparent end-to-end switched voice and data; ISDN; digital and analog dedicated transmission services; plus a network management system to manage all HITS facilities. Other team members on the 10-year contract include Time Warner's Oceanic Cable and I-NET.
OtherTelephonics Corp., Farmingdale, N.Y., received a contract valued at more than $2 million from Kinkisharyo Inc., Wellesley Hills, Mass., for integrated communications, passenger information event recorder systems and CCTV systems for platform observation. These systems will be installed on 43 light rail vehicles currently being purchased by New Jersey Transit for the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Transit System. The Oxford Molecular Consortium, London, obtained a $756,000 grant from the United Kingdom Department of Trade and Industry for the Biolib project in bioinformatics. This project will lead to the development of a library of software modules, delivered via the Internet, which will help discovery scientists to effectively extend their existing software capabilities.
