BDM Buys ASD and SEI: BDM International Inc., McLean, Va., acquired Advanced Systems Design Inc. and Software Engineering Inc., both of Fairfax, Va. The companies design and develop state and local government human services systems.

The companies will be brought under the control of BDM's Public Sector unit and focus on child support enforcement, welfare systems and child welfare systems. Before the buyout, ASD and SEI had been teaming on human service contracts in more than 25 states. The combined revenues of ASD/SEI for 1996 were approximately $9 million. The $4.8 million cost of the acquisition, paid in one lump sum, will come from cash balances, BDM officials said.

HP, Cisco Team: Hewlett-Packard Co., Palo Alto, Calif., and Cisco Systems Inc., San Jose, Calif., will jointly develop Internet-ready, networked computing solutions. They will also expand or begin collaboration in four areas: technology development, product integration, professional services, and customer service and support. Cisco and HP will offer solutions for Windows NT and Unix system environments, with an emphasis on one-stop service and support.

Efforts will focus on critical business applications, such as intranets, electronic commerce, databases and messaging. HP intends to standardize its enterprise solutions on Cisco intranet products and the Cisco IOS software platform.

CSC Acquires Pinnacle: Com-puter Sciences Corp., El Segundo, Calif., signed a letter of intent to acquire Pinnacle Group, Athens, Ala., a consulting and systems integration company.

Pinnacle, which had revenues of more than $24 million in 1996, has been ranked one of America's 500 fastest-growing, privately held companies by Inc. magazine for the last three years. The deal, subject to the approval of both companies' boards of directors, is expected to be concluded next month. Upon joining CSC, Pinnacle would become part of the Consulting and Systems Integration unit based in Waltham, Mass.

CyberGuard Enters the U.K.:
CyberGuard Corp., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., a provider of network security solutions, claims it will be the first company to market firewall software solutions in the United Kingdom that have passed Information Security Evaluation Criteria evaluations. The U.K. government will only allow firewall solutions that pass the IT security and evaluation certification scheme set by its Department of Trade and Industry.
