First Netplex IPO of the Year: Dunn Computer Corp. of Sterling, Va., signaled its intent to go public in a filing last week with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The maker of custom computer systems expects to offer 1 million shares of common stock worth $5 per share.

Wexler Group Acquires Former Politico: Robert Walker, retired chairman of the House Science Committee will join the Wexler Group in Washington. The bipartisan government affairs firm specializes in lobbying and grassroots organization services for Fortune 500 companies. The former Republican representative from Pennsylvania served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 20 years as a vocal champion for the space program, research and technology. He will beef up the company's high-tech business, according to a group spokesman. The company already represents Science Applications International Corp. and Comcast Corp. of Philadelphia.

Closer to the Action: The heart of the Netplex continues to be Tysons Corner, according to CB Commercial's third-quarter report on real estate in the Northern Virginia
region.

Light Industries and Decision Systems Technologies have already spurred activity for the area. Light Industries, a software developer and systems integrator located in Millersville, Md., is opening an additional office in Alexandria. The move is part of the company's strategy to be closer to its large concentration of clients that are in Alexandria.

In other areas of the Netplex, Decision Systems Technologies Inc., a government contractor specializing in infotech services, will be moving from Greenbelt, Md., to Rockville, Md., early this year.

CIT Infotech Team Adds Muscle: Nitin Pradhan, the former associate industry director of information technology and telecommunications for the Center for Innovative Technology, has been promoted to a newly-created position. She will be joining Wolfgang Tolle, co-industry director at the CIT in Herndon, Va.

South Is Where the Green Is: So far, more than 20 Netplexers have been nominated to head down to
Atlanta in February to obtain money from venture capitalists and investment bankers at Red Herring's Venture Market South conference. More than 90 companies from the southern United States are expected to attend.
