CSC Wins Air Force Work: Computer Sciences Corp., El Segundo, Calif., is part of a team selected by the U.S. Air Force to replace maintenance information systems at all active Air National Guard and Reserve bases and operating locations. Andersen Consulting, Chicago, is the prime contractor of the $72.5 million contract.
CSC will establish a common operating environment and provide commercial infrastructure support and security services. Its Systems Engineering Division based in Falls Church, Va., will furnish the staff for these services.
Digital Files Suit Against ATI: Digital Equipment Corp., Maynard, Mass., has filed a lawsuit which alleges that Altavista Technology Inc., Campbell, Calif., infringed upon Digital's Alta Vista trademark.
In March 1996, Digital acquired all of ATI's rights to the Alta Vista trademark and subsequently licensed to ATI limited and specific uses of it. Digital alleges that ATI has used the trademark in ways that it is not licensed to.
Digital complains that ATI's World Wide Web page is confusing to users and advertisers as to the source of the Alta Vista Internet search service.
General Dynamics Buys Lockheed Martin Units: General Dynamics, Falls Church, Va., has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of two business units of Lockheed Martin Corp., Bethesda, Md., for $450 million.
General Dynamics will acquire Lockheed Martin's Defense and Armament Systems units, which produce combat vehicles and gun systems, respectively.
Lockheed Martin chief executive Norman Augustine said in a statement on the pact that the sale is part of the company's strategy to shift its technology focus.
"As Lockheed Martin has evolved toward an emphasis on larger scale electronic systems and systems integration work, these two operating units are outside of the corporation's core business and technology thrusts," he said.
