Raymond D. Thomas Jr. has been appointed acting president of Comsat RSI Inc., a subsidiary of Comsat Corp., Bethesda, Md. He succeeds Richard E. Thomas who announced his retirement Sept. 26. Raymond Thomas was group vice president of the company's Communication Systems operating group. From 1994-1995 he served as vice president and general manager of that group's business unit. The Board of Directors of Columbus Center Development Inc., Baltimore, announced that Mayo A. Shattuck III, president and chief operating officer of Alex. Brown Inc., will continue as chairman of the board for a second term that includes a minimum of two years. Columbus Center Development is a private, non-profit corporation that is developing and owns and operates the $160 million marine biotechnology and seafood research, education and exhibition facility.

Indus Corp., Vienna, Va., announced the expansion of its program and marketing activities for its Geographic Information System services with the formation of the Government Solutions and Commercial Solutions divisions. Alan Blumenthal has been appointed senior vice president, Government Solutions, Gary Hill has been named senior vice president, Commercial Solutions, Charles F. Tobin Jr. was appointed vice president, administration, and Maryann F. Lesnick was named director, U.S. Department of Justice Programs.

Yurie Systems Inc., Lanham, Md., has hired Charles Marantz as vice president, finance and administration and chief financial officer. Marantz was formerly director, mergers and acquisitions of Global One, Reston, Va.

Getting A Window
Berkeley Computer Training Center announced the addition of Thomas Walt to its staff. Walt has more than 15 years of experience in NT workstations, NT server and high-end applications. He gained experience while in the U.S. Air Force where he logged more than 2,000 hours of classroom time and was named a master instructor for the Department of Defense.

GVI, Washington, has promoted Helga Luest to marketing manager. Luest has been with GVI since 1994 as an account executive. Sharon McBeath joined GVI as a financial manager. McBeath previously served as senior financial analyst with Britches of Georgetowne Inc.
