NASA, Washington, D.C., has awarded new contracts toward development of the $443 million Space Infrared Telescope Facility. Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space, Sunnyvale, Calif., and Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., Boulder, Colo., were chosen to team with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., to design develop, test and integrate SIRTF. Ball will design and develop the cryogenic telescope assembly. Lockheed Martin will provide the SIRTF spacecraft and, under a separate contract, perform SIRTF's system-level integration and testing. The contracts are collectively valued at $160 million, with $20 million allotted for definition work beginning in October 1996 and continuing for 18 months. Another $140 million may be provided for work during the project's design and development period, pending congressional approval in 1998. Sentel Corp., Alexandria, Va., has been awarded an $18 million subcontract by the U.S. Air Force as part of the Sverdrup technology team on the $185 million Air Force Technical and Engineering Acquisition Support contract. Sentel will provide engineering support in the research, development and testing of conventional weapons systems for the Air Force Aeronautical Systems Center, the Air Force Development Test Center and the Air Warfare Center at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.

The U.S. Air Force has awarded a $62.5 million contract to AlliedSignal Technical Services Corp., Columbia, Md., to install seismic sensors at sites worldwide.

Defense Supply Service has awarded Science Applications International Corp., Southbridge, Mass., the Defense Financial Management Education and Training Program, a five-year, $46 million contract. SAIC will assist the Defense Business Management University in establishing a center for financial management education and training.

SatCon Technology Corp., Cambridge, Mass., announced that the U.S. Marine Corps has ordered an advanced flywheel uninterruptible power supply system for remote, power-generating stations. The contract is valued at $1.1 million.

Telecom Solutions Inc., Lake Forest, Calif., has been awarded a $20 million contract by the Naval Surface Warfare, Indian Head Division. TSI will provide training solutions for complex processes to various government agencies.

General Government
Human Resource Systems Inc., Alexandria, Va., has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Postal Service to provide engineering, technical, professional and administrative support personnel at the Kansas City facilities service office and other USPS locations. The initial contract is worth $500,000 and includes options to extend services for up to five years. HRSI was also awarded a $1.7 million contract by the U.S. Navy to provide health-care services for the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va.

AlliedSignal Technical Services Corp., Columbia, Md., has been awarded a $2 million contract by the Maryland Department of Transportation to develop, design, integrate and support the state's Chesapeake Highway Advisory Routing Traffic and Intelligent Transportation Systems.

OTHER
Telephonics Corp., Farmingdale, N.Y., has been awarded a $300,000 contract from Boeing Defense and Space, helicopters division, for the STARCOM Intercommunication System, which will be used in the Royal Netherlands CH-47D helicopter.

WilTel, Jackson, Miss., and National Telephone &amp Communications Inc. have signed a multiyear $1 billion contract. The contract supersedes the $600 million contract signed by NTC last fall.

Compression Labs Inc., San Jose, Calif., has been awarded a General Services Administration Group 58 contract for its full line of group videoconferencing products, including service, support and installation for federal customers worldwide. The five-year contract has a potential value of $20 million to $30 million.
