Lucky Stars: Two months ago, DynCorp CEO Dan Bannister canceled his trip to Bosnia with Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown's ill-fated trade mission. Now Bannister's company may have dodged a similar bullet in the May 11 ValuJet crash. SabreTech, the firm implicated in mislabeling used oxygen canisters, whose inadequate stowage is believed to be the cause of the crash, is formerly a DynCorp subsidiary that Bannister sold 10 months ago.

Movers and Shakers: Carol Walcoff, CEO of Walcoff Associates, will join the board of Women in Technology as president-elect. She will succeed Reliable Integration Services' CEO Valerie Perlowitz as head of the fast-growing networking organization founded by Perlowitz, America Online's Jane Church and others.

New Jobs: Former C3 CEO and BDM vice president, Jim Hughes, is leaving his law firm and technology clients next month to join health organization INOVA as vice president and general counsel. Technology staff director Mark Bolgiano has resigned from the Greater Washington Board of Trade to join the Silver Spring-based Information Resource Associates.

Cast Your Votes: The powerful Industry Advisory Council of FGIPC has scheduled open elections for a successor to Chairman Izzy Feldman. Candidates for chairman are Robert Guerra, Sysorex; Ken Johnson, Cordant; and Marvin Gordon, Business Information Associates.

Meeting and Greeting: Among those on hand to meet 75 European mayors and other elected officials exploring community Internet applications at a reception sponsored by Washington Technology and the Greater Washington Initiative were Hughes' Wayne Shelton, SAIC's Mike Daniels, GTE's Deirdre Murray, Sprint Spectrum's E.Y. Snowden, NationsBank's Bill Hodges, Data Systems Analysts' Fran Pierce and Cliff Lundberg of General Offshore.

Shootin' the Breeze: There may be some interesting dinner conversations in the Leto household. Former PRC CEO Jim Leto has taken a position as CEO of Network Imaging Corp., a competitor of Oracle Corp., which employs Todd Leto, Jim Leto's 29-year-old son. Todd Leto has been working at Oracle Government in Bethesda, Md., for two years on the National Account for Health and Human Services and GSA. He previously worked for Falcon Micro- systems.
