Texas catalog will make shopping easier

P> Texas vendors used to send 250 paper catalogs to each state agency. Now they register with the state and fill out a form that describes their offerings, and the state provides an electronic link to a vendor's Web site.

Eventually, agencies will be able to type in key words and call up links to vendors that provide the product or service needed. The state's General Services Administration is refining an early prototype of the search engine. To visit the state's electronic catalog, go to p://www.sparky.gsc.state.tx.us/ecat/
