P DEAL OF THE FORTNIGHT NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Ala., has selected Sverdrup Technology Inc. of Tullahoma, Tenn., for a $73 million science and engineering contract. Under the five-year contract, Sverdrup will provide engineering and scientific services to Marshall Space Flight Center in systems analysis and integration, propulsion, astrionics, materials and processes, structures and dynamics, and space science. Sverdrup competed against several other engineering and scientific support contractors including PRC Inc. in McLean, Va., Rockwell International Corp. in Huntsville, Ala., and NYMA Inc. in Greenbelt, Md.

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Ala., has selected Sverdrup Technology Inc. of Tullahoma, Tenn., for a $73 million science and engineering contract. Under the five-year contract, Sverdrup will provide engineering and scientific services to Marshall Space Flight Center in systems analysis and integration, propulsion, astrionics, materials and processes, structures and dynamics, and space science.


According to the Marshall Space Flight Center, the contract was awarded to Sverdrup based on mission suitability, relevant experience, past performance and cost.

Sverdrup, established in 1950 as a subsidiary of Sverdrup Corp., Maryland Heights, Mo., is an architectural and engineering firm that offers advanced technology services to government and industry.

Department of Defense
The U.S. Air Force has awarded Lockheed Martin Services Group in Cherry Hill, N.J., a $40 million, five-year contract to operate and maintain a ship-based surveillance instrumentation platform known as COBRA JUDY. The platform is used for detecting and tracking of foreign and domestic strategic ballistic missile tests.

General Government
AlliedSignal Technical Services Corp., Columbia, Md., has been awarded an $11.6 million contract by the U.S. Geological Survey to install, operate and maintain a Global Seismograph Network. The network will advance knowledge of the Earth's interior structure for earthquake research.

Other
SatCon Technology Corp. in Cambridge, Mass., has been awarded a $1.4 million contract from Hughes Space and Communications Co. in El Segundo, Calif. Under the contract, SatCon will design, build and test a beta site unit to demonstrate the control and electronics technologies required for a lighter weight, more power-efficient control system for communications satellites.

Northrop Grumman Corp.'s B-2 division in Pico Rivera, Calif., signed a $4.7 million contract with Digital Equipment Corp., Maynard, Mass. The contract includes Alpha-based workstations and servers for simulation, real-time testing and flight control integration applications.
