Internet 201

I thought it would be interesting to stretch the editorial envelope by offering you an HTML (hypertext markup language) document masquerading as a column on defense conversion. I intentionally kept the tags as simple as possible to ensure the page works with all browsers (that is, programs used to read HTML pages).

You should be able to "read" this "page" with any Windows or Mac Web browser, for example, Lynx, Netscape, Mosaic, AirMosaic, WebSurfer, MacWeb, et al. I put the tags in uppercase for easy identification, even though case is irrelevant in HTML. You just have to type in the column exactly as you see it using a plain text editor. Then save it as a file with the extension .htm in the subdirectory of your choice, launch your browser and open the file. /ad tag dateJune 8, 1995/date

I intentionally kept the tags as simple as possible to ensure the page works with all browsers (that is, programs used to read HTML pages).

For example, using Netscape 1.1, choose "File" on the menu bar, select "Open File" (Ctrl-O) and type the name you gave your file, for instance, defcon.htm. For those using the Columbus method of typing (search, discover and land), if you send me E-mail with the characters, "defcon," in the subject line of your message, I will tell you where I put this page. That should save you some aggravation.
