Cable Company Buys Daily

Tulsa, Okla.-based cable entertainment company has acquired the electronic

important link in the government procurement chain.

United Video Satellite Group, a public company, said Jan. 9 it was the new owner of CBD Direct, a satellite-delivered version of the daily, printed by the U.S. government each business day. Alden Electronics, Westborough, Mass., had been the previous online publisher.

The satellite version arrives at subscribers' computers a day ahead of the printed

version, which could theoretically give its readers a headstart on bids. The service costs about $5 per day, with a $250 startup fee.

United Video is active in the cable entertainment industry. The company distributes WGN broadcasts from Chicago, and the Prevue Networks, which include the Prevue Channel and others.

It also owns Superstar Satellite Entertainment, the nation's biggest provider of

home-satellite TV programming, and SpaceCom systems, a satellite communications provider.
