We're Working Out the Server Bugs

s many of you know, we've been on Internet for a year or so. In that year, you've been sending us E-mail. That's been about it. We're hoping by the end of the year to announce a new service for Washington Technology -- an easier way for you to reach us and for us to send information to you. We saw a need for the coming years -- a need to better serve readers and advertisers. We want the information exchange with you and us to be a bit more dynamic. We believe we can do that with our own Internet server: technews.com

TechNews, the parent company of Washington Technology, has purchased a Sun SparcStation II and soon (very soon, we hope) it will be wired onto Internet. When that happens, we'll have E-mail, of course, but most important, we'll have our own virtual real-estate to settle on, and present Net users and our readers with many resources.

Any major offerings like a Mosaic home-page or a version of Washington Technology online is sometime in the future -- but not too far. We're also looking at options on how to create an exciting Internet site people will want to stop by along the cyber-highways.

For now, we just want the site up-and-running. Technicians (or is that exterminators?) have been working out the proverbial bugs that have kept us offline. By the time you read this, we hope final testing on technews.com will be occurring. We've learned some lessons along the way -- probably some of the same lessons you are learning, as you try to join the likes of Sun Microsystems, the Department of Energy, Dell and others who have home pages on the Net. What we've been doing is probably a story in itself -- one we'll tell you when everything is done.

So watch these pages in the next issue for a new E-mail directory for the WT staff. If you're Internet savvy and just can't wait, you might consider sounding a "ping" to see if we're finally up and running.
