BDM GOES ON TECH HUNT
Ever mindful of ways to tap publicly-funded high tech, BDM International is joining up with ARCH Venture Partners to ferret out and commercialize defense-sponsored technologies.
The alliance will mine universities and national labs in the Southwest United States, including Sandia National Laboratory, Los Alamos, and the University of New Mexico. The joint organization is called AB Ventures, and it will involve BDM's BDM Federal Inc. subsidiary. AB will have the responsibility of identifying promising technologies, while ARCH Venture will dip into its own pool of $30 million in venture capital, as well as find other sources of capital, to fund startups.
This isn't the first such alliance for BDM International. The company has taken a similar approach in commercializing promising technologies from the former Soviet Union.
booz ROTATING HEADS
Booz-Allen & Hamilton, in a move a company spokesperson called a routine executive rotation, named Ralph Shrader president of the firm's Worldwide Technology Business. Shrader, a 20-year veteran, was senior vice president in charge of the company's Advanced Technology Group. The firm's official press release announcing the change did not say Shrader will replace Gary Mather. A spokesperson said Mather would be staying at Booz Allen to lead the firm's "merger thrust."
