FBI developing new data center strategy

The FBI is looking to pick up more professional services support as it looks to shift its data centers to a cloud solution.
The FBI has started work on a new contract that will support the consolidation of its various data centers into a cloud-based setup.
The agency released a request for information on June 7 to describe the scope and goals of the contract, which at least for now is called FBI IT Professional Engineering Services. Responses are due June 21.
According to Deltek, the contract will replace one held by ECS Federal.
But this isn’t a simple recompete. The FBI wants to shift its data center infrastructure to a platform-as-a-service offering. This contract will give the FBI the professional contractor staff it needs to make the transition. Services will include engineering and design of hosting platforms, installation, configuration, patching, updates, and repairs.
The contractor will also have to document each system including an inventory and confirmation settings. The contractor also will need to coordinate with application owners to migrate their systems.
It appears that the FBI is looking at making a single award for the contract. They are considering an evaluation criteria that puts a higher value on the technical services score, followed by key personnel, the transition plan, and finally price.
The RFI also indicates that this will be a three-year contract, with a one-year base followed by two one-year options.
