Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, needed a way to secure the supply chain of its microelectronics and it turned to KSM Consulting. Securing the supply chain of microelectronics has become more complex because the manufacturing of these components are no longer done in house.

Crane had been using a manual process for risk identification and KSM developed a prototype for an Automated Microelectronics Analysis and Reporting Optimization solution that automated risk analysis and assessment to identify critical nodes in design, production and distribution. This helped identify when a product is most at risk to malicious inserts, inferior substitutions, supply interruptions or intellectual property theft.

To build this solution, KSM used several cutting edge capabilities including a cloud native architecture, probabilistic record linkage, machine learning, risk rules engine and automated data ingestion. It also utilized multi-level network mapping, a web-based interface, and supply chain risk management.

Crane realized an almost immediate 40 percent reduction in the time needed for a supply chain risk assessment.

KSM said it sees broader applications for the AMARO solution across multiple industries and product categories.

“Any industry that sources materials, parts, components or entire finished products without complete control over every node in the supply chain will benefit from the ability to assess risk across the key domains that AMARO enables,” the company said.
