CenturyLink hires Raytheon's former privacy chief

CenturyLink said Thursday it has hired former Raytheon executive and nearly two-decade legal veteran Hugo Teufel as chief privacy officer.

The telecommunications giant has tasked Teufel to advise sales, IT and security teams on privacy initiatives. Teufel will report to Ryan McManis, vice president and deputy general counsel.

Most recently at Raytheon, Teufel was chief privacy counsel and guided that now-former defense company navigate various new regulations in the U.S. and Europe. Teufel joins CenturyLink nearly one month after Raytheon completed its merger with United Technologies.

He is also a government service veteran and his career there includes service as chief privacy officer for the Homeland Security Department and associate solicitor for the Interior Department.

Teufel succeeds Linda Gardner, who left CenturyLink in December of last year to become associate general counsel, privacy and data protection at law firm Leggett & Platt.
