SAIC moves to production on missile encryption solution
SAIC has won a production contract for encryption devices that protect access to ballistic missile sites.
Science Applications International Corp. has won the production contract for an encryption device that secures access to missile systems.
The $23 million contract follows a $6.2 million contract the company won in late 2015 to explore options on how the Air Force could modernize the Missile Electronics Encryption Device.
Under the production contract, SAIC will supply the devices, known as KL-90, as well as training, spare parts, engineering support and data. The contract runs through Dec. 29, 2022.
This was a sole-source acquisition.
According to documents posted on GovWin, the devices are ruggedized and tamper-resistant and encrypt personnel authentication and lock combination transmission via unsecure means such as telephones and land mobile radio.
The devices are used to control access to missile silos.
