Unisys adds $152M DISA contract to federal growth story

Work for the federal government continues to help spur Unisys’ comeback from more than a decade of revenue declines that reversed itself last year with 3-percent overall sales growth.

The global software company has added another win to that story with a potential five-year, $152 million contract to help operate the Defense Department’s central program for managing DOD’s IT infrastructure.

In a release, Unisys said it was chosen by the Defense Information Systems Agency to provide the company’s CloudForte managed services offering for use in a cloud computing environment to support the larger Joint Service Provider program.

Started in 2015, the JSP effort is intended as a centralize mechanism for DISA to deliver IT services to customers in the Pentagon and Washington, D.C. region.

CloudForte hit the market in June of last year and is one of Unisys’ flagship software products alongside its Stealth cybersecurity offering to secure large, long-term contracts with both government and commercial customers.

That strategy is paying off in its federal business, which posted 1-percent sales growth last year to $571 million. Federal contracts accounted for one-fifth of Unisys’ total revenue for 2018, which was the company’s first year of sales growth since 2003.

This year’s second quarter saw federal post a 33-percent sales increase from the prior year period to register that business’ largest quarterly growth rate in 10 years. Unisys expects federal sales to climb in the mid-to-high 10-percent range this year.
