The Marine Corps is in the market research phase of an effort to develop a contract for cloud migration services.

The Marines want to move applications from their in-house data centers into a commercial cloud environment, according to the sources sought notice.

They want a contractor who can create a rationalization framework for its applications that will help determine which applications can be moved to the cloud.

That framework should also include methodologies, technical requirements and assessments for moving the applications. The Marines want cost estimates for re-factoring, re-hosing, re-platforming and re-purchasing as necessary.

Any solution should identify technologies for automation and other ways to gain efficiencies within the migration process.

The Marines plan to close several on premise data centers so they need contractor support to realize cost and operational benefits of the cloud.

This is a new contract, so there is no incumbent.
