The Defense Department wants to better control the millions of dollars it spends on business travel expenses.

DOD is considering a transition to a secure, efficient travel solution to book travel, manage travel-related expenses, and initiate related financial transactions. It wants to reduce overhead costs and decrease the costs per trip.

The department aims to cut down on customization and configuration of systems throughout the department. To do so, it would align travel policies with standard industry practices.

DOD is interested in prototype solutions that may lead to eventual transition to a travel solution.

In its new request for information, officials want feedback on their draft business travel policy and processes, as well as potential solutions.

DOD released the RFI June 19. Responses are due by June 30.
