Trump puts pen to cyber order

President Trump has signed a much-anticipated executive order that focuses on bolstering cybersecurity of federal networks and systems that operate critical infrastructure, our sister publication FCW reported today.

The order calls on agencies to adopt the National Institute of Standards and Technology framework and includes language on defense against cyber threats and forging international alliances.

Agency leaders are directed to take on responsibility for cybersecurity at their agencies and also give risk mitigation assessments to the White House and Homeland Security Department. This move is part of a larger effort to adopt a new enterprise risk management approach across all federal agencies.

"From this point forward, the president has issued a preference from today forward in federal procurement of federal IT for shared services," Tom Bossert, White House homeland security and counterterrorism advisor said at a White House briefing announcing the execution of the order.
