General Dynamics wins Navy oceanography IT contract

General Dynamics' IT arm will help run IT environments for an environment data-focused Navy organization under a potential five-and-a-half year, $52 million contract.
General Dynamics’ information technology business unit has won a potential five-and-a-half year, $52 million contract to help manage IT environments for a Navy environmental data organization.
Contract work will support the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command and other subordinate organizations.
The Navy has tasked General Dynamics Information Technology for subject matter knowledge in meteorology and oceanography, geospatial information systems, cybersecurity and IT portfolio and program management.
Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command oversees efforts to collect and analyze environmental data on the atmosphere and oceans for the service branch’s operations.
A majority of the work will take place in Fairfax, Va. The rest will occur in Monterrey, Calif. and at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, which houses the command.
The Navy received three offers for the contract that has a five-year base period and an option to extend work for an additional six months.
