ViON takes $50M Navy prize for infrastructure-as-a-service
ViON was picked by the Navy to provide on-premise IT infrastructure-as-a-service to support SPAWAR.
The Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command awarded a $50 million indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity contract for IT infrastructure capacity through an as-a-service model.
ViON Corp. of Herndon, Va., will help SPAWAR more accurately scale up and scale down its IT infrastructure to meet evolving mission requirements. The company will provide on-demand, on-premises computing, networking and storage solutions for a variety of systems and applications for the command’s research, development, testing and evaluation infrastructures, laboratory and data center environments.
The contract will be a pay-as-you-go acquisition model, with no upfront costs. The Navy said it is trying to avoid overbuying of IT equipment to meet an expectation of future requirements.
The majority of the work will be conducted in Charleston, S.C., and San Diego.
The initial award is worth $34.8 million and the additional value coming if SPAWAR exercises the all the available options.
The Navy announced the award March 9. It runs through March 2022. They described the contract as a competitive award but didn’t say whether there were other bidders beside ViON.
