SPAWAR releases $50M RFP for new 'as a Service' offering

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command released a request for proposals for a three-year, $50 million contract for Capacity as a Service (CaaS).

SPAWAR expects to award a single, indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity contract in December.

SPAWAR noted it’s not looking for Infrastructure as a Service or cloud services. Instead, its CaaS solicitation is for an agile, on-demand, on-premise computing, networking, and storage solution.

The solution would apply to a variety of systems and applications in SPAWAR’s Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation core infrastructures, laboratories, and data center environments at the agency’s headquarters and its field activities at the SPAWAR system centers.

The agency wants a service provider that can offer a scalable, elastic, dynamic, vendor-agnostic solution. It wants the solution based on a commercial utility model that can rapidly be expanded or contracted.

SPAWAR released its RFP on June 28. Responses to the RFP is Aug. 10.
