Marines seeks better warehouse management

The Marine Corps is asking industry for a software solution to aid in tactical warehouse logistics.

The Marines is looking for a solution to aid in modernizing and automatizing supply and inventory management functions for inbound shipments, warehouse management and distribution, according to a new request for information. The solution needs to use Item Unique Identification (IUID) and automated identification technology.

The Marines want to cut down on stove-pipe processes and systems input redundancies. The Marines and civilians are required to input data into numerous systems and applications to complete logistics processes. The redundant process is named the “swivel chair,” and it’s cumbersome and time-consuming. It also increases the chance for human error and the spread of errors across integrated systems.

Now, the Marine Corps is looking for an interoperable logistics IT portfolio that provides a single, integrated and scalable end-to-end logistics chain and command and control for logistics.

Global Combat Support System-Marine Corps will use the market research and an analysis of alternatives to determine potential sources that can deliver six requirements:

• Inbound processes, such as receiving and inspection
• Warehouse management, such as stock location
• Outbound processes, such as picking and packing
• Administration, such as identifying discrepancies and backordering
• Technical areas, such as reading and writing radio frequency identification tags
• Reporting

The Marine Corps released its request for information Jan. 12. Responses are due by Feb. 12.
