Air Force considers $8m IDIQ for cyber/electronic warfare program

The Air Force Research Laboratory is considering a five-year, $8 million indefinite-quantity indefinite-quality contract to enhance the cyber/electronic warfare communities using high-powered electromagnetics (HPEM).

In a presolicitation notice issued Dec. 9, the AFRL asked companies to propose research concepts in the area of cyber/electronic warfare applications (CEWA).

The AFRL wants to study and develop innovative ways that HPEM can complement and bolster warfare concepts. The contract would include identifying scenarios in which HPEM would be useful, studying single-pulse and repetitive-pulse concepts, as well as developing these models in the laboratory or in small-scale demonstrations.

The AFRL’s Directed Energy Directorate began the HPEM CEWA Program in 2013. It investigated cutting-edge ways of using HPEM technologies to support and enhance the missions of the cyber and electronic-warfare communities.

The AFRL is expected to release a request for proposals in January.
