DHA plans global medical threat system

The Defense Health Agency is developing a contract for a software-as-a-service platform to help it track global medical threats.

The system described in a new request for information would analyze data feeds from social media sources such as Facebook and Twitter. The system will need to collect data in multiple formats including complete data sets, audio, video and other formats.

DHA wants to be able to convert that data into actionable intelligence to support risk mitigation efforts. The agency wants the data in real-time, according to the RFI.

Among the goals of the system is to help the Defense Department gain a better understanding of medical threats and to reduce its vulnerability to debilitating events.

The capabilities DHS wants includes global geospatial mapping, including satellite, aerial and street level imagery. They also are looking for information on mobile applications such as alerting capabilities including text, email and voice alerts to decision makers.

The system also should have the ability to allow users to upload data from the field.

Responses to the RFI are due June 8.
