TASC wins $35M contract to support laser research
TASC Inc. has won a $35 million contract with the Air Force to support the Optical Radiation Bioeffects and Safety program, which explores countermeasures to the use of laser weapons.
TASC Inc. has won a $35 million contract with the Air Force to support the Optical Radiation Bioeffects and Safety program.
The Optical Radiation Bioeffects and Safety program, or ORBS, conducts research on kinetic energy systems to assist in transitioning Defense Department technologies, the Defense Department said in a release.
Research will be conducted in the areas of novel laser bioeffects, laser eye protection and advanced technology demonstration and applied high energy laser bioeffects.
This contract was awarded to come up with countermeasures to optical radiation hazards expected in future combat scenarios.
Deliverables include data, hardware and software.
Work will be performed at Joint Base San Antonia-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and is expected to be completed by April 23, 2020.
Funding in the amount of $712,500 is obligated at the time of the award.
