Boston Dynamics wins $10M contract to develop new walking robot
Boston Dynamics has won a $10 million contract with DARPA to enhance the Legged Squad Support program, a walking robot to support ground troops.
Boston Dynamics has won a $10 million contract modification with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for the Legged Squad Support program, or LS3.
LS3’s goal is to demonstrate that a legged robot can unburden dismounted squad members by carrying their gear, autonomously following them through rugged terrain, and interpreting verbal and visual commands, the Defense Department said.
Under the contract, Boston Dynamics will develop an enhanced version of the LS3 system with increased reliability and usability, enhanced survivability against small arms fire, and a quiet power supply for stealth operations.
Work will be performed in Waltham, Mass., and is expected to be completed by March 31, 2015.
