Senators introduce legislation to stop security clearance misconduct

In light of the recent Edward Snowden scandal, a bipartisan group of senators have introduced legislation that aims to stop security clearance investigation misconduct, while providing funding for investigations into such misconduct if it occurs.

The Security Clearance Oversight and Reform Act, or SCORE Act, allows the inspector general for the Office of Personnel Management to use money from the revolving fund for audits, investigations and oversight of the security clearance process, FCW reported. The bill also calls on the director of national intelligence to release guidance to all agencies as to which positions require a security clearance.

Those behind the bill are also looking to the Government Accountability Office to report on whether standards used by investigators are current, how the quality of the investigations is tracked, and what agencies have done in the past in response to poorly conducted investigations, FCW reported.
