GD wins $15M contract to upgrade electronic warfare system

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems has won a $15 million contract modification with the U.S. Navy for nine high-gain, high sensitivity systems in support of the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program, or SEWIP.

Specifically, these systems will be in support of the SEWIP Block 1B3 low-rate initial production requirements. SEWIP is an acquisition program to upgrade the existing AN/SLQ-32(V) Electronic Warfare System.

Block 1B3, which calls for a high-gain, high-sensitivity receiver, is part of Block 1, which provides electronic warfare capabilities to existing and new ship combat systems to improve anti-ship missile defense, counter targeting and counter surveillance capabilities.

The high-gain, high-sensitivity receiver enables the system to detect and identify additional threat emitters and to provide warning to the combat system to ensure that SEWIP achieves all objectives, the Defense Department said.

Work will be performed in Fairfax, Va., and is expected to be completed by March 2015.

Funds in the full amount of the contract value were obligated at the time of the award, and will not expire at the end of fiscal 2013.
