Commerce: Computer contract to save taxpayers millions
In a rare blog announcement, a Commerce official touted the cost-savings potential from a recent Intelligent Decisions Inc. contract.
A small-business computer contract is expected to save taxpayers up to $25 million over the next five years, blogged Acting Commerce Deputy Secretary Rebecca Blank.
Posted on both The Commerce and White House blogs, a contract with Dell Inc.-reseller Intelligent Decisions Inc. will cut the cost of computers and laptops by 40 percent, Blank wrote.
"The contract leverages the large volume of computers that Commerce purchases each year and standardizes specifications to achieve significant cost reductions," she said.
"Making wise spending decisions like this will enable Commerce to focus resources on its primary mission, which is supporting innovation, helping American businesses create jobs, and driving U.S. competitiveness around the world," she added.
Blank called strategic sourcing and better management of IT devices "smart contracting strategies," that can make a difference to the bottom line.
In other Intelligent Decisions news, the company announced on Feb. 23 that it also became an Amazon Web Services (AWS) partner. It will sell cloud computing services through GovCloud (US), a new AWS Region designed to allow U.S. government agencies and contractors to move more sensitive workloads into the cloud by addressing their specific regulatory and compliance requirements, the announcement said.
