SAIC names new CEO of scientific research subsidiary

Science Applications International Corp. has named David Heimbrook chief executive officer of its SAIC-Frederick Inc. subsidiary, effective May 31. He will report to Joe Craver, president of SAIC's Health, Energy and Civil Solutions Group.

Heimbrook succeeds Larry Arthur, who has served as CEO since 2000 and will remain with SAIC-Frederick as chief scientist.

Heimbrook will be responsible for the management and oversight of all scientific and business activities, leading a staff of approximately 2,000 scientific, technical and support professionals in cancer and AIDS research who maintain a full suite of advanced technologies in areas such as nanotechnology, genomics and biomedical imaging, according to a May 25 SAIC announcement.

SAIC-Frederick provides operations and technical support to the National Cancer Institute's federally funded research and development center in Frederick, Md., one of only 38 national laboratories in the United States and the only one solely dedicated to cancer and HIV/AIDS research.

Heimbrook earned his Ph.D. and master's degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale University and a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Duke University.
