Rumors suggest that Gen. David Patraeus, America's top military man in Afghanistan, could become CIA director.
Could America's top man in Afghanistan become CIA director?
NPR is reporting that the commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East, Gen. David Petraeus, is being pegged for the CIA's top job.
"Several sources, including government officials, say Petraeus is being seriously considered for CIA director, and would take the job if offered," writes Tom Bowman, who covers the Pentagon for NPR.
This probably means that the commander, set to step down from his current post by the fall, has moved away from the NATO supreme commander job in Belgium, which he was also being tipped for. That post is being vacated by U.S. Adm. James Stavridis.
In February 2009, the general received a diagnosis of early-stage prostate cancer but underwent successful radiation treatment to deal with the illness.
