EMC buys Reston-based security analysis provider

EMC Corp. has acquired NetWitness Corp., a private provider of network security analysis solutions. The financial terms of the deal, which closed April 1, were not reported.

Founded in 2006 by entrepreneur Amit Yoran, NetWitness will now operate as a part of RSA, the security division of EMC based in Hopkinton, Mass.

NetWitness will become a core element of RSA’s Advanced Security Management Solutions, providing real-time visibility into network activity and adding efficiency to incident investigations and workflow, according to an EMC announcement today.

Its technologies provide precise and pervasive network visibility, enabling security teams to detect and remediate advanced threats while automating the incident investigation process.

The Reston, Va., company’s customers include enterprises across the Global 1000 in sectors such as financial services, power and energy, telecommunications, retail, and high-tech, as well as government agencies around the world in defense, homeland security, law enforcement, and intelligence.

Organizations worldwide have deployed NetWitness solutions to solve a wide range of information security problems that include insider threats, zero-day exploits and targeted malware, advanced persistent threats, fraud, espionage, data leakage, and continuous monitoring of critical security controls, the EMC statement said.
