Harris Corp. has won a four-year, $19 million contract from the state of Florida to implement a statewide health information exchange infrastructure that is designed to improve the delivery and coordination of health care.
The contract, awarded by Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration, calls for Harris to connect health entities across the state, including physicians, hospitals, regional health information exchanges, and state government agencies, according to a Harris statement released today.
Harris also will provide timely, secure and authorized exchanges of patient health information.
The company’s open, standards-based solution will allow the state to efficiently adapt to health policies and technologies, minimize the total cost of ownership, and build on existing regional investments for a connected Florida health information exchange.
The health information exchange in Florida, which has an aging and transient population, can become a model for the country by improving patient safety and quality while lowering costs, Jim Traficant, vice president and general manager of Harris Healthcare Solutions, said in the announcement.
Harris Corp., of Melbourne, Fla., ranks No. 13 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
