It's official: Federal Acquisition Service has new commish

Steve Kempf is now the General Services Administration’s Federal Acquisition Service commissioner, an agency official confirmed today.

GSA Administrator Martha Johnson sent out an internal memo today announcing Kempf and his new position, the DorobekInsider reported.

Kempf has been acting FAS commissioner since April, following the previous FAS commissioner Jim Williams' retirement.

“As GSA steps forward, so, too, will FAS be facing a challenge," according to the DorobekInsider report on Johnson’s memo. "FAS has expertise, operational know-how, and extensive customer knowledge. Used well, these will position FAS to gain further market credibility by offering customer agencies real value as they strive to meet their missions under constrained resources.”

Kempf joined GSA in 1992. He began as a marketing coordinator for GSA’s Office of Technology Assistance and the Center for Federal Systems Integration and Management.

According to the news report, Jon Jordan is the new deputy FAS commissioner. He has worked in GSA and FAS’ budget programs for more than 36 years, Johnson's memo states.
