9 win awards for $2B in DOD tech support work

Nine government contractors will now compete for work under the the Defense Department’s Software, Networks, Information, Modeling and Simulation Technology Support contract.

Nine government contractors have been named to the Defense Department’s Software, Networks, Information, Modeling and Simulation (SNIM) Technology Support Contract.

The five-year, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract, which was awarded May 24, is worth up to $2 billion. The companies will now compete with each other for work under the contract.

The nine awardees are:

  • Alion Science and Technology Corp.
  • Applied Research Associates Inc.
  • Battelle Memorial Institute.
  • Booz Allen Hamilton Inc.
  • ITT Corp.
  • L-3 Communications Inc.
  • MacAulay Brown Inc.
  • Science Applications International Corp.
  • Wyle Laboratories Inc.

The contract is designed to improve access, sharing and security of information, according to a statement issued June 3 by contract winner Alion Science and Technology Corp.

SNIM consolidates the customer-funded efforts of three of the DOD’s Information Analysis Centers, which are under the direction of the Defense Technical Information Center.

They act as clearinghouses for expertise and assistance with technical challenges, the Alion statement said.

The contract combines technical area tasks previously performed under the Data and Analysis Center for Software, the Information Assurance Technology Analysis Center and the Modeling and Simulation Information Analysis Center.

Alion currently operates the Modeling and Simulation Information Analysis Center on behalf of the department, along with two other information analysis centers that focus on weapons systems technology and advanced materials, manufacturing and testing.

Alion’s team includes General Dynamics Information Technology Inc., IBM, Ciber and Accenture as well as dozens of small-business partners that have specialized capabilities in related technical areas.
