NRC readies $270M infrastructure opportunity
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is seeking bids for a large information technology infrastructure support and services contract.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is advertising for bidders for its largest information technology support contract to date spanning a full range of information technology infrastructure support, Darren Ash, the commission’s chief information officer, said today.
The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract is for IT Infrastructure and Support Services, according to a solicitation published March 24 on the FedBizOpps Web site.
The contract has a maximum value of $270 million over six years, Ash said, following a breakfast meeting sponsored by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association. “This is our largest contract ever,” he said.
Many of the agency’s 4,000 employees are relatively young and new to government work and are familiar with wireless devices and social media, Ash said.
“Their needs are very different. Their expectations are very different,” he said. “They say, ‘I don’t want a desktop, give me a laptop.’ ”
The commission intends to award the contract to a single prime contractor. Proposals are due May 19.
The contract includes support for computing and teleworking services for the commission’s workforce.
It includes the provision of “personal computing solutions that allow NRC staff to effectively work securely from anywhere at any time,” along with security, help desk, training and other services, according to the solicitation.
