L-3 to help Army with secure network

L-3 Services Inc. will provide information technology support to the Army for the military's secure Internet protocol network under a $15.9 million contract.

Under the contract, L-3 Services will provide system integration services to the Joint Staff for the Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNet) infrastructure, the Defense Department said Sept. 24.

L-3 Services will furnish personnel, equipment, tools, materials, supervision and other items and non-personal services for SIPRNet, DOD said. The company is expected to finish by April 30, 2009.

SIPRNet is the interoperable command and control IP data network at the Defense Department and is primarily used for the exchange of classified operational and tactical information at the Secret classification level.

L-3 Services, of Reston, Va., is a unit of New York-based L-3 Communications Corp. The parent company ranks No. 8 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
